"You've made these last two weeks bearable, " Justice Wallace said amid three standing ovations he received at the state bar association's annual convention at the Borgata Casino Hotel in Atlantic City.
Gov. Chris Christie earlier this month opted not to reappoint Wallace and nominated attorney Anne Murray Patterson to succeed him.
"I'm glad I'm not one of those who has left this world -- you're treating me as one who has," the justice said to laughter. "Thank you, thank you, thank you."
Wallace's remarks followed accolades by Supreme court chief justice Stuart Rabner and and Haddonfield attorney Allen Etish.
Etish presented Wallace with a framed resolution paying tribute to his accomplishments.
