TRENTON — A New Jersey man has admitted sending threatening e-mails to employees of five Latino civil rights organizations.
The U.S. Justice Department said Vincent Johnson of Brick pleaded guilty today to multiple counts of interfering with the exercise of civil rights and transmitting threats in interstate commerce.
Prosecutors say Johnson used the internet pseudonym "Devilfish" to send threats of violence intended to intimidate the recipients.
The groups included: the Latino Justice Puerto Rican Legal Defense Fund, Mexican American Legal Defense Fund, National Council of La Raza, League of United Latin American Citizens, and the National Coalition of Latino Clergy and Christian Leaders.
Johnson faces up to 10 years in prison on each civil rights count and five years on each interstate commerce count. Sentencing is set for Jan. 26.
