TRENTON — Nine urban communities in New Jersey will share nearly $139 million in state aid.
Camden will get the bulk of the funding — $69 million — announced Wednesday by the Department of Community Affairs. Trenton will receive $27.1 million, while Paterson will get $22.3 million and Union City will get $13 million.
Other communities getting aid are East Orange, $2.85 million; Passaic, $1.45 million; Lawnside, $1.4 million; Irvington, $1 million, and Bridgeton, $855,000.
Communities receiving the money must agree to stringent state oversight and reporting requirements imposed by the Christie administration.
They also must develop a plan detailing how they will eliminate reliance on the state subsidies, now called "transitional aid."
