TRENTON — Gov. Chris Christie and his family helped serve Thanksgiving dinner at a soup kitchen in Trenton this afternoon.

As he handed out apples in the serving line along with daughter Bridgette, Christie greeted each person through the line and wished them a happy Thanksgiving. His wife Mary Pat served up dessert while daughter Sarah handed out loaves of bread.

The process wasn't without politics.

When Majid Rickerson came through the line, he pleaded with the governor to help create more jobs in the area.

"I know it's hard," Christie responded. "We're working on it. We're trying."'

The 30-year-old, who last worked as a housekeeper at a nursing home in Trenton, said he depends on the soup kitchen every day for a meal.

Jimmy Hall joked with Christie about the commentators on New Jersey 101.5 FM and said he was pleased to see the governor taking the time to visit the soup kitchen.

"I've never seen him, but that's exactly what I thought he would look like," Hall laughed. "He's a good guy. He's a man of integrity."

After the line had finished moving through service, Jose Soto took a moment to implore the governor to help the homeless.

Soto, who said he sleeps in a cemetery, said it wasn't just about him, but all of the homeless he sees that are in need of assistance or help finding a job.

"We need more help," Soto said. "A lot of people are living on the street. I'm homeless. We need somebody to help us."
