TRENTON — A Middlesex County Democrat has been named the new chairman of the Assembly Judiciary Committee. Assemblyman Peter J. Barnes III of Edison was selected by Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver earlier this week. The 54-year-old Barnes will replace Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein, who was elected to the state Senate in November.
Barnes has served in the Assembly since 2007. He was vice chairman of the Judiciary Committee in the past session.
The Judiciary Committee reviews legislation concerning the criminal justice and court systems.
