JERSEY CITY — Jurors in the corruption trial of former state Assemblyman L. Harvey Smith are expected to hear from a leading Democrat today.
The prosecution is expected to call Assemblyman John Wisniewski. He heads the Democratic State Committee and is chairman of the Assembly transportation committee.
Prosecutors say Smith approached Wisniewski about a building project in Jersey City on behalf of a developer. The man actually was a federal informant who taped meetings in which he gave money to public officials.
