State offices to reopen at regular time Tuesday
TRENTON — Stephen M. Sweeney, the state senator and acting governor, tonight announced he's rescinding the state of emergency.
"While this storm hit us much worse than anticipated, the cleanup is well underway," he said in a statement, released about 6:30 p.m.
State offices will reopen at their regular times Tuesday morning.
Sweeney (D-Gloucester), acting as governor with both Gov. Chris Christie and Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno away on vacation, declared the state of emergency Sunday night.
Sweeney thanked the New Jersey State Police, Office of Emergency Management, Department of Transportation and local public works and public safety departments statewide for their work during and after the blizzard.
"And I thank the residents of New Jersey whose lives have been turned upside down for the past two days for their patience," he said.
He advised residents to continue to use common sense and caution when venturing out of doors, since some roads will still be hard to navigate.
"Even though the storm is now passed, it will be several days before we have totally cleaned up the mess left for us by Mother Nature," he said.
