BRICK — Republican Andrew Ciesla says he will not seek re-election in November after nearly 20 years in the New Jersey Senate.

Ciesla announced Thursday he'll support Assemblyman James Holzapfel to succeed him.

The Star-Ledger first reported Cisela's decision last month.

The Asbury Park Press reports the 57-year-old said in a prepared statement that he feels it is "time to pass the torch."

Ciesla represents the 10th legislative district, which serves 11 towns in northern and central Ocean County and one in Monmouth County.

Toms River Township Council President Gregory McGuckin and Brick Township Councilwoman Ruthanne Scaturro have expressed interest in seeking the GOP nomination for Holzapfel's Assembly seat if he runs for the state Senate.
