HACKENSACK — A school-finance expert testified in court today that New Jersey's public schools can still offer a thorough education despite state aid cuts last year, according to a report on NorthJersey.com.

Erik Hanushek, a scholar at Stanford University, made the statement at a hearing to decide whether the $1 billion cut in state funding violated students' constitutional right to a "thorough and efficient education," the report stated. Hanushek asserted school districts can increase class size, cut their least capable teachers and reduce food-service expenses without sacrificing a quality education.
