WASHINGTON, D.C. — Gov. Chris Christie addressed a reception of governors and ambassadors today about his message of fiscal austerity.
Christie told those in attendance, including ambassadors from several countries, that "New Jersey is putting its money where its mouth is" when it comes to trade. He said the state is investing in the infrastructure around the port, including raising the Bayonne Bridge.
Christie also used the occasion to talk about his banner issue, fiscal responsibility.
"We, as governors, have to get our houses in order," Christie said. "We know we have to be a good place to do business."
The reception, in advance of Saturday's start of the National Governors Association Winter Meeting in Washington, D.C., was meant to bring governors and ambassadors together.
Christie served as a host governor along with Delaware Democrat Gov. Jack Markell and North Carolina Democrat Beverly Perdue.
Markell, who spoke after Christie, joked that if the crowd liked when he had to say to remember Christie is a University of Delaware graduate.
Christie will join many of the nation's governors at their annual winter meeting. The governors will discuss a variety of policy issues, including budgets and pensions, two topics Christie has spoken vocally about.
Saturday night, Christie will attend a dinner at the White House for participating governors. He will also appear on CBS's "Face the Nation."
