NEWARK — State Sen. Richard Codey (D-Essex) is propositioning the national committees from both major parties to hold their 2016 political conventions in the Garden State, according to a report on APP.com.
Codey wrote the chairmen of the Republican and Democratic committees to suggest they make the Prudential Center in Newark their main convention hall, and New Meadowlands Stadium the site where the party's 2016 president candidate makes their acceptance speech, the report said.
The last political convention held in New Jersey was in Atlantic City in 1964, when Democrats nominated Lyndon B. Johnson for his first full term, according to the report.
