MONTCLAIR — Protests over Gov. Chris Christie's proposed state budget will greet Assembly lawmakers who are holding a hearing on the spending plan in Montclair.
The citizens group Better Choices for New Jersey is planning a demonstration before today's budget committee meeting.
The group says tax cuts to businesses and the wealthy are being paid for by the state's working families through higher property taxes and reduced services.
The committee will focus on higher education, schools and local government issues.
It's the second of three public hearings Assembly lawmakers are holding on the Republican governor's proposed $29.4 billion budget.
The Assembly and Senate must adopt a new budget for New Jersey by July 1, the start of the new fiscal year.
