TRENTON — Assemblywoman Elease Evans (D-Passaic) will not seek reelection, Democratic legislative leaders announced today.
“Elease Evans has been a wonderful addition to our caucus, a consummate public servant who understands the needs of her constituents,” said Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver (D-Essex). “She has never been shy about standing up for those in need and has been a fierce anti-poverty advocate.”
Evans, a 67-year-old Paterson resident, joined the Assembly in 2007 to serve a district that includes parts of Passaic and Bergen Counties. She succeeded the Rev. Alfred E. Steele, who resigned after being arrested on corruption charges.
Evans is vice-chair of the Assembly Labor Committee. She also serves on the Education and Labor and Public Safety committees, as well as the Special Committee on Economic Development.
