PARSIPPANY — The Parsippany Board of Education unanimously approved its latest budget tonight.
It is slightly different than the budget the board unanimously approved last Thursday in that Kathleen Serafino, Morris County executive superintendent, removed $2,642 from the $129.8 million spending plan.
That’s the difference between what Superintendent LeRoy Seitz has earned since December when his new five-year contract took effect, which the state deems invalid, and what he would have been paid under his old contract.
Serafino’s change, however, will have no effect on taxpayers.
Homes assessed at the township average of $306,343 will see a tax increase of $130 if the budget is approved by voters on April 27.
It will also have no effect on Seitz’s salary. The board still plans to pay their superintendent $220,585 beginning July 1, a salary that far exceeds Gov. Chris Christie’s cap, which limits superintendents’ base pay to $175,000.
Serafino had said she would not approve the budget unless the contract was rescinded. But that threat never materialized.
Anthony Mancuso, board president, said the district will continue to pay Seitz under the new contract, which the district has gone to court to uphold.
“As I have maintained from day one, the Parsippany Board of Education has gotten good, solid legal advice,” Mancuso said. “We have acted within the rules and regulations of the state.”
