TRENTON — Assemblywoman Joan Quigley (D-Hudson) announced today she will not seek re-election.
Quigley said she decided not to run again because the legislative team in her new district, state Sen. Brian Stack (D-Hudson) and Assemblyman Ruben Ramos (D-Hudson) had picked an as yet unannounced different candidate.
"It was a wild
ride in a rough arena, and I enjoyed every minute of it," she said in a statement early this morning.
Quigley, a Jersey City native who has been in the Assembly since 1994, was moved from her old district with state Sen. Nicholas Sacco (D-Husdon) and Assemblyman Vincent Prieto (D-Hudson) under the new legislative district map approved Sunday.
Meanwhile, Sacco and Prieto plan to run with West New York Board of Education Vice President Angelica Maria Jimenez in the 32nd District.
“New Jersey is a better place because of Joan Quigley, whose steady hand has helped guide our caucus,” said Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver (D-Hudson). “Her tireless work to protect public safety, improve insurance coverage for those with mental health problems, promote health education and protect patient rights will stand strong for years to come.”
Quigley is one of a number of lawmakers who have decided to retire under the new legislative district map.
