TRENTON — Gov. Chris Christie thinks Xanadu, the stalled megamall project in the Meadowlands, is the ugliest structure in the state.
A new poll out today finds that most residents who know what it is agree with him. They also agree that they don't want state money spent on redoing its oddly shaped and oddly colored exterior.
Less than half of those questioned in the latest Quinnipiac University Poll had heard of Xanadu.
Eighty percent of them share Christie's view on its appearance, but they're divided about the project's future. Forty-six percent say it should go forward and 41 percent want it abandoned.
The telephone survey of 1,532 registered voters was conducted April 12-18 and has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.
