TRENTON — An Assembly panel plans to vote today on a bill that would allow electronic betting on horse racing in New Jersey.
The bill puts the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority in charge of establishing a betting exchange through which bettors would place wagers.
Bettors would have to prove they are residents of the state. Federal laws prohibit Internet wagering in all states.
If approved by the panel, the bill would need to be voted on by the full Assembly and Senate.
