Ed Potosnak, who ran unsuccessfully against U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance last year, is seeking a rematch.
Potosnak wants to run in the 7th Congressional District in 2012– the second Democrat to announce his candidacy there in as many weeks.
On Thursday, former Edison Mayor Jun Choi announced he also plans to run in the district.
It’s unclear what the congressional district will look like by November, however. Boundaries have to be redrawn to conform with Census figures, making it possible that Choi and Potosnak, a North Plainfield resident, will not be in the same district.
And with New Jersey losing one of its 13 House seats, the political futures of most New Jersey House members, including Lance, are uncertain.
Potosnak, who runs a home improvement business, is a former teacher and for two years advised U.S. Rep. Mike Honda (D-Calif.) on science and education. He got about 40 percent of the vote against Lance last year.
"Creating good jobs to secure America’s future, stimulating research and development, improving education so that future generations can innovate and lead, and protecting the American Dream are among my top priorities” said Potosnak in a press releease. “Congressman Lance has changed since going to Washington, and his ever-changing policy positions are damaging America’s future.”
