Some delegates want to punish politicians who voted for pension and health insurance overhaul that made benefits more expensive for public workers
TRENTON — There could be a ruckus at the New Jersey AFL-CIO's candidate endorsement conference.
The union's political education committee meets today to endorse candidates for the state Legislature based on their voting records and commitment to advancing working family issues.
Some delegates want to punish Senate President Stephen Sweeney, Sen. Donald Norcross and others who voted for a landmark pension and health insurance overhaul that made benefits more expensive for public workers.
Building Trades and Construction Council President Bill Mullen has threatened to walk out if the Democratic incumbents are not endorsed, however. He says the lawmakers shouldn't be judged on one vote.
Sweeney is an ironworker and Norcross belongs to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
All 120 state legislators are up for re-election in November.
