Prosecutors drop charges against wife; Bayonne Democrat and spouse were accused of violating campaign finance laws
HUDSON COUNTY — New Jersey Assemblyman Anthony Chiappone pleaded guilty today to tampering with public records under a plea agreement.
In return, prosecutors dropped charges against the Bayonne Democrat's wife, Diane.
They were charged last year by state prosecutors with official misconduct and violating campaign finance laws. They were accused of taking more than $8,000 from paychecks meant for legislative aides, moving the money into campaign and personal accounts, and failing to report the campaign contributions.
Chiappone served as an assemblyman from 2004-2005, then was elected again in 2007.
