TRENTON — Health and Senior Services Commissioner Mary O'Dowd today issued a plea for people to donate blood - in short supply because Hurricane Irene led to the cancelation of blood drives around the state.
People willing to donate may find more information at 1-800-Red Cross, www.redcrossblood.org/make-donation, or http://www.nj.gov/health/njsave3lives/centers.shtml
“As a result of Hurricane Irene, numerous blood drives were canceled around the state, limiting the blood supply for hospitals and other health care facilities,” O’Dowd said in a prepared statement. “Recognizing continuing flood conditions and road closures, people who want to donate should call ahead to make sure your local blood center is open and make an appointment to give blood.”
