Palin told supporters in a letter released tonight that she wanted to spend more time with her family
WASHINGTON — Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will not seek the 2012 Republican Party nomination for president, according to a report on Politico.
The 2008 GOP nominee for vice president has been a heartthrob of the tea party movement since its formation in early 2009, but told supporters in a letter released tonight that she wanted to spend more time with her family.
"As always, my family comes first, and obviously, Todd and I put great consideration into family life before making this decision," Palin wrote.
The announcement comes one day after Gov. Chris Christie announced he won't seek the GOP nomination either.
Palin did not explicitly rule out the possibility of running as an independent during an appearance on radio host Mark Levin's show this afternoon, the report said.
The announcement likely boosts the chances of Texas Gov. Rick Perry in his current competition against fellow front-runner Mitt Romney, the report speculated.
