Charges against the women include conspiracy, theft by deception and attempted theft by deception, the release said
TRENTON — Four women from northern New Jersey were indicted today on charges they created and used counterfeit checks to try to buy more than $4,500 in merchandise, the state Attorney General's Office said.
From Nov. 30 to Dec. 14, 2010, the women — Anneesh Robinson, 32, of Newark; Hassonah Higgins, 28, of Newark; Zyanya Wright, 28, of Newark; and Crystie Anthony, 36, of Paterson -- allegedly created 13 checks using an insurance company's routing number and checking account number, the office said in a news release.
The women then used the checks to buy or try to buy merchandise from stores such as Toys “R” Us, Best Buy, Walmart and Modell’s Sporting Goods, the release said. The fraud was referred to the Attorney General's Office by the insurance company.
Charges against the women include conspiracy, theft by deception and attempted theft by deception, the release said. If convicted, the women face a maximum sentence of five years in state prison.
