State Sen. Diane Allen spearheaded a drive to restock pantry shelves and raise awareness of provision shortages
TRENTON — Eighteen food pantries in Burlington County now have enough staples to last through the holidays.
State Sen. Diane Allen spearheaded a drive to restock pantry shelves and raise awareness of provision shortages. The Republican lawmaker says rising need and cuts in federal aid have combined to seriously stress food pantries.
Allen collaborated with the National Foundation for Women Legislators and the California nonprofit, Nourish America. In all, 10,000 pounds of food and vitamin supplements were donated.
Allen says that will keep pantry shelves stocked for five months.
All 120 New Jersey legislative seats are up in November. Allen will face Democrat Gail Cook of Beverly.
