State Sens. Loretta Weinberg and Paul Sarlo say the credit creates jobs and drives the economy
TRENTON — Two Democrats today urged Republicans to reinstate a tax credit for production companies that film movies or television shows in New Jersey.
Sens. Loretta Weinberg (D-Bergen) and Paul Sarlo (D-Bergen) say the credit creates jobs and drives the economy.
Gov. Chris Christie eliminated the credit shortly after taking office, then vetoed Democrats' attempt to reinstate it at an increased level of $50 million.
The administration says the credit has been disappointing as an economic stimulus.
Treasury Department economist Charles Steindel reported this year that the state would likely lose money on such an investment.
Christie vetoed a $420,000 credit to MTV's "Jersey Shore" reality show in September because he said the show hurts the state's image.
