TRENTON — Gov. Chris Christie has scheduled a news conference to discuss judges' pensions.

Today's event comes one day after Christie directed the state's attorney general to appeal a decision invalidating higher retirement contributions for judges.

Superior Court Judge Linda Feinberg ruled last week that a 9 percent increase in judges' pension contributions violates the constitution because it effectively reduces their salaries. The ruling came after another judge sued.

Christie blasted Feinberg's ruling, which negated part of his effort to overhaul the pension and health insurance systems for New Jersey's 500,000 public workers. He called the ruling self-serving.

Christie wants lawmakers to put a constitutional amendment on next year's ballot to clarify that judges are subject to the higher pension contributions. But Democrats who control the Legislature say they won't do that.
