NEWARK — New Jersey's Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno and Newark Mayor Cory Booker are among the dignitaries expected to attend the annual "Blue Mass" being staged today by the Archdiocese of Newark.
The event, which honors law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty or have recently passed away, will be held at Newark's Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart
It comes the same day a wake is being held for Newark Police Det. Michael Morgan, who was fatally shot earlier this week. Two people were arrested Wednesday in connection with the shooting, which occurred early Monday during a robbery outside a Paterson strip club where the off-duty officer was attending a party.
Nine other officers who died in 2010 and 2011 also will be honored at the Mass.
