TRENTON — Raymond Brennan, the former police chief at the state Department of Human Services, died Thursday. He was 85.
His death was confirmed by a funeral home.
Brennan was chief from 1985 until May, when he was ousted after a long battle with the department. He oversaw a police force of more than 100 officers, which patrols state developmental centers and psychiatric hospitals and accompanies caseworkers on potentially dangerous visits.
The department charged Brennan with inappropriate conduct, and he accused officials of age discrimination.
He did not appeal his dismissal in May, according to a department spokeswoman.
