Will Mennen, a Republican from Tewksbury, hopes to replace the late Assemblyman Peter Biondi (R-Somerset)
FLEMINGTON — Hunterdon County Freeholder Will Mennen announced today he will run for Assembly in a special convention next month.
Mennen, a Tewksbury Republican, hopes to replace the late Assemblyman Peter Biondi (R-Somerset), who died on Nov. 10 – two days after he was elected to an eighth term.
“I am a proven conservative with proven accomplishments,” wrote Mennen, an attorney, in a letter to Republican county committee members.
The committee members from the 16th District’s towns in Hunterdon, Somerset, Mercer and Middlesex Counties will meet next month to pick a replacement for Biondi’s first year in office. The person they elect will have to run in the November general election to fill the remainder of the term.
Mennen technically lives outside of the district where he hopes to run, but said he lives literally two doors down from it and will move into it.
Princeton real estate executive Bill Spadea has already announced his candidacy.
