The queen also chatted with victims of the disaster
NEW YORK — Queen Elizabeth II made her first visit to Ground Zero this afternoon, in honor of the victims of 9/11.
During the 25-minute visit, the queen greeted New York Gov. David Paterson, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and their families. The queen also met and chatted with several families of victims of the disaster — American and English.
British citizen and Brooklyn, N.Y. resident Paula Berry, whose husband, David Berry, was killed in the attack, said she was charmed and impressed by the queen.
The queen was dressed in a turquoise, tan and white floral print ensemble and a matching hat.
“She didn’t break a sweat,” Berry said, noting the 100-degree heat. “I guess that’s the difference between royalty and the rest of us."
Christie said the queen was very interested in the World Trade Center site, particularly the memorial.
“She was really nice,” Christie said. “About what I expected. Rather formal, but you know, that’s from a guy from New Jersey.”
