State labor officials say New Jersey's unemployment rate continued to edge down last month.
The rate dropped by one-tenth of a percent to 9.6 percent in June. But that's now slightly higher than the national rate of 9.5 percent.
According to data issued today, the state lost 1,900 jobs overall last month.
The biggest drop was the loss of 7,200 public sector jobs, including 4,300 temporary Census workers. Also down were manufacturing (1,800) and financial services (300).
But private-sector employment rose by 5,300 jobs, led by gains in professional and business services (4,400); leisure and hospitality (2,800); trade, transportation and utilities (2,600) and education and health services (1,300).
