TRENTON — In a new poll, New Jerseyans say they blame Gov. Chris Christie for missing out on a $400 million federal education grant, but most people approve of the job he's doing.

The Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey Press Media poll out today finds Christie's job approval rating at 45 percent among residents. Thirty-eight percent disapprove of the job he's doing.

Of those surveyed, about two in three are aware that the state lost out on $400 million in federal Race to the Top education funds. More people place the ultimate responsibility for the loss with the governor rather than with former Education Commissioner Bret Schundler.

The telephone survey of 801 New Jersey adults was taken Sept. 15-19 and has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
