The governor was in California for mere hours before getting into it with a heckler
LOS ANGELES &mdash New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was in California for mere hours Wednesday when he mixed it up with a heckler at a political rally after throwing some of his Jersey guy bravado around on behalf of Meg Whitman, the Republican candidate for governor here.
This morning, Christie gets back to it.
The Garden State governor is in the Golden State for the start of a three-week national political tour that will have him traipsing through some of the states that are most critical to both parties as they head toward the 2012 presidential election. Christie is on the road campaigning for GOP gubernatorial candidates, like Whitman.
"In New Jersey it is working," Christie told 350 people at a Whitman fund-raiser in Hollywood on Wednesday night. "New Jersey and California face some of the same challenges."
Christie was greeted with a rousing welcome — even louder than the one Whitman received — when he entered the event. He proceeded to tell some of the war stories from his first year in office, the same ones he likes to repeat at rallies when he's home. Christie told the California faithful about the "bullies" in the teachers union and compared Whitman's Democratic opponent, onetime presidential candidate Jerry Brown, to former Gov. Jon Corzine, whom Christie defeated last year.
After a breakfast fund-raiser, Christie is scheduled to head to southeastern New Mexico for a series of events with Susana Martinez, that state's Republican gubernatorial candidate. Christie has not released the schedule for the rest of his trip, but he is planning to head to Chicago on Friday for a stop on Oprah Winfrey's famous couch, where he and Newark Mayor Cory Booker plan to announce a sweeping restructuring of the management and priorities of the Brick City's school district.
