TRENTON — New Jersey's governor is lending his support to a national campaign to encourage shopping at small businesses during the holiday season.

Gov. Chris Christie said today that he's urging New Jerseyans to join him and his wife Pat in shopping at local stores this weekend on "Small Business Saturday."

The campaign is being promoted by credit card company American Express and through social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

A release from the governor's office notes that New Jersey has more than 28,000 retail establishments with 20 employees or fewer. Christie says they're "critical to our economy and our livelihood."
