TRENTON — New Jersey is about to get a new state Assemblyman.
Kevin Ryan will be sworn in Thursday to represent the 36th District, which includes Nutley, Rutherford and Wood-Ridge.
The 41-year-old Democrat lives in Nutley and is a graduate of the Essex County College Police Academy. He is currently an undersheriff in Essex County.
Ryan fills the seat vacated by Fred Scalera, who retired.
All 80 Assembly seats and 40 Senate seats are up for re-election in November.
Both houses of the Legislature are now controlled by Democrats.
