TRENTON — The new chairman of the state’s Republican Party, Saddle River Mayor Sam Raia, was sworn in tonight.
Raia was named the new head of the New Jersey Republican State Committee last Thursday. That news came shortly after former chair Assemblyman Jay Webber, of Morris Plains, announced he would step down.
“I look forward to working with Chairman Raia in the months ahead, as we continue to grow the Party and build on the accomplishments of the last two years,” Governor Chris Christie said.
Raia, 62, heads a real estate investment management and development firm and is an established fundraiser.
In August, he hosted Christie in his home at a fundraiser for the Bergen County Republican Organization. Since 2009, Raia has made about $8,500 in political contributions.
Shortly after getting sworn in, Raia announced that Gov. Christie’s current director of intergovernmental affairs, Amanda De Palma, would work as the executive director of the committee. She will leave her position in the state government.
