TRENTON — New Jersey's Republican Party has a new chairman.
Saddle River Mayor Samuel Raia was elected to the post tonight by the Republican State Committee.
Raia succeeds Assemblyman Jay Webber of Morris Plains, who resigned last week. Webber said he wanted to focus on his work as the Republican leader of the commission on reapportionment of the state's congressional districts.
Raia issued a statement saying he hopes to work with the party leadership to win back control of the state Senate and Assembly in the fall election.
He also announced that Amanda De Palma has been appointed as the new executive director of the Republican State Committee. De Palma was a key aide in Chris Christie's successful 2009 gubernatorial campaign.
