The Quinnipiac University Poll out today says voters almost universally understand the seriousness of the state's budget crunch.
Three-quarters of those polled support wage freezes. Two-thirds support imposing furloughs and reducing pensions. More than half support layoffs.
More than half also support a so-called "Millionaires Tax," which amounts to a surcharge on the state's wealthiest earners.
Nearly three-quarters oppose cutting aid to public schools.
The telephone poll of 1,347 registered voters was taken Feb. 3-7 and has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.
