TRENTON — State aid for municipalities will remain flat this year under Gov. Chris Christie's proposed budget, according to two sources who were briefed on the spending plan.
The aid, which was cut last year, will not receive further reductions, said the sources, who requested anonymity in the lead up to the governor's 2 p.m. budget speech. Democrats have pointed to cuts last year in municipal aid as the source of rising property taxes.
In the budget that passed last year, towns got nearly $1.3 billion in aid from the state.
