Governor again says he has no interested in occupying Oval Office
TRENTON — Gov. Chris Christie is "thrilled" that he continues to get asked to run for president.
But don't get too excited, he's still has no plans to run in 2012.
"How self important would one have to be to become tired and annoyed by having people ask you to run for president?" Christie said this morning in an interview on 1210 AM WPHT, a Philadelphia radio station. "I'm a kid from Jersey who has people asking him to run for president, I'm thrilled by it. I just don't want to do it."
Talk of Christie running for president was revived Sunday when The Associated Press reported that Iowa donors are coming to New Jersey to court the governor to run for the Republican nomination.
Christie said as a political observer he doesn't think President Barack Obama has a safe ride to reelection.
"I see a pathway to victory for a Republican candidate in 2012," Christie said.
WPHT host Chris Stigall, who began the interview by declaring himself "an unabashed and gushing fan," pressed Christie, asking him if he cares more about the welfare of New Jersey than of the entire country.
"I think that welfare of our country is just as important if not more important than the welfare of the state of New Jersey," Christie said. "I made a commitment to the people of the state of New Jersey."
