BARNEGAT — Gov. Chris Christie will travel to the Ocean County today to sign legislation clearing the way for clean water projects in New Jersey.
The bill signing will take place along Barnegat Bay. The bay generates billions in revenues from tourism and recreation each year, but is plagued by heavy pollution and overdevelopment.
On Wednesday, Christie signed bills designating $157 million for land preservation. One of the regions included was near Barnegat Bay.
Another was the Highlands region, the source of much of the state's drinking water.
In January, Christie signed into law the strictest fertilizer limits in the nation. The goal was to prevent nitrogen-heavy lawn fertilizers that spur algae growth from leaking into the bay.
