U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg is one of the wealthiest members of Congress, according to a report on MyCentralJersey.com.
Lautenberg was found to be the seventh-wealthiest among all the members of Congress, with an estimated $55 million in assets, according to information published by Roll Call magazine on Friday. The senator's wealth grew by more than 10 percent over the 2010 total, according to the magazine. Lautenberg grew up poor in Paterson, but has been a consistent advocate of greater taxes on the wealthy.
Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen, a Republican from Morris County, was 15th on the list, with assets of at least $20 million.
The list was compiled by using broad reporting estimates members of Congress have to report, and then subtracting liabilities from assets, producing a rough figure of how wealthy the members are.
