Gov. Chris Christie has been elected vice chairman of the Republican Governors Association, a group that raises money to support GOP candidates in Statehouse around the country TRENTON — Gov. Chris Christie has been elected vice chairman of the Republican Governors Association, a group that raises money to support GOP candidates in Statehouse around the country.
Christie has proven to be a successful fundraiser for the Republican Party. Last year he traveled the nation fundraising and stumping for Republican candidates.
He has two fundraisers scheduled for this month, including an event in Louisiana and a Missouri. He had planned to visit Mississippi last week but canceled because of the hurricane.
The previous vice chairman, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell moved into the chairman role after Texas Gov. Rick Perry stepped down from the position to run for president.
The group also elected Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker to the executive committee to fill a slot vacated by Perry.
“No governors better exemplify the type of leadership our country needs right now than Governors Chris Christie and Scott Walker,” McDonnell said in a statement. “Both have closed multi-billion dollar budget deficits, tackled unsustainable long-term liabilities in their states and are aggressively pursuing education reform. They are sending a powerful message to the nation that the toughest political issues can be solved, and they will be valuable members of the RGA’s leadership.”
