ASBURY PARK — Asbury Park restaurateur Marilyn Schlossbach dropped her candidacy for state Assembly today.
"It is with great regret that I must withdraw my candidacy for Assembly. My efforts at this time must be focused on the health of my business, and protecting the jobs it has created,” said Schlossbach, a Democrat.
Campaign manager Vlad Gutman said some of Schlossbach’s six Asbury Park restaurants suffered damage from Hurricane Irene.
Schlossbach was running in the 11th Legislative District with fellow Assembly candidate Vin Gopal and state Senate candidate Ray Santiago. They wanted to challenge state Sen. Jennifer Beck (R-Monmouth) and Assemblywomen Caroline Casagrande (R-Monmouth) and Mary Pat Angelini (R-Monmouth).
Although the race was not considered top tier, some Democrats had pointed to it as one where they might have a chance in the right circumstances.
Monmouth County committee members from the district have until Sept. 13 to pick a replacement for Schlossbach.
