Codey, along with Democratic running mates John McKeon and Mila Jasey all won re-election
ESSEX COUNTY — State Sen. Richard Codey (D-Essex) and his Democratic running mates, John McKeon (D-Essex) and Mila Jasey (D-Essex), have all won reelection.
Codey, who has been in the Legislature 38 years, defeated state GOP state Senate candidate William Eames. McKeon and Jasey defeated Republican challengers Lee Holzman and Nicole Hagner.
Codey, McKeon and Jasey are not used to running in competitive general election races. But the redrawn legislative district map stuck six Republican-leaning Morris County towns in their district.
While the district still leans Democratic, the incumbents spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on their re-election effort.
Gov. Chris Christie aided the Republicans, hosting a high-dollar fundraiser last month at the Bernardsville Inn.
