Assembly race was considered one of the most competitive in the state
BURLINGTON COUNTY — Democrats Troy Singleton and Assemblyman Herb Conaway (D-Burlington) won two Assembly seats tonight, defeating Mt. Laurel Mayor James Keenan and business owner Chris Halgas.
Conaway, an incumbent, will serve his eighth term in the Assembly. Singleton is a member of the carpenters’ union.
State Sen. Diane Allen (R-Burlington), a Republican incumbent seeking her fifth term, cruised to victory over challenger Gail Cook.
Democrats have typically held the Assembly seats in this split district, but redistricting brought more Republicans into the district.
The Assembly race was considered one of the most competitive in the state. Gov. Chris Christie aggressively campaigned for Keenan.
