EDISON — President Obama will have the opportunity to sample some subs when he visits New Jersey Wednesday.
Obama will head to Tastee Sub Shop on Plainfield Avenue in Edison once he arrives in the Garden State in the afternoon, according to a White House official and a congressional source. Once there, he’ll host a roundtable discussion about the economy with local small business owners.
Obama is expected to promote a bill expanding loan programs and tax breaks for small businesses that Democrats hope will pass the Senate this week.
After the Edison event, Obama plans to attend a taping of ABC’s daytime show "The View."
The president originally scheduled a Garden State visit in May, but scrubbed it to head to the Gulf oil spill region instead. He made three visits to New Jersey last year to campaign for former Gov. Jon Corzine’s unsuccessful reelection bid, culminating in major back-to-back rallies on Oct. 30 at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden and the Prudential Center in Newark.
Gov. Chris Christie, a Republican, is still waiting to hear if he’s invited to the event.
"If he’s invited, he’ll attend," said Christie spokesman Kevin Roberts.
Edison Mayor Antonia Ricigliano said she’s thrilled about Obama’s visit but knows few details about it.
"They told me what I’m not in – that I’m not in the motorcade," she said.
