TRENTON — With his first six months of office spent in the spotlight, New Jersey ubiquitous governor is laying low for two weeks.
Gov. Chris Christie told reporters today he was headed to the governor's shore house at Island Beach State Park for a week, then taking a baseball-themed road trip with his sons — Andrew, 16, Patrick, 9.
"The three boys have gotten a hall pass from the three women in the Christie family,'' he joked. Christie and his wife Mary Pat have two daughters, Sarah, 14, and Bridget, 7.
"I am to be in a car for six days with my teenage son and my 9 year old, going to a baseball game a night for six nights across America,'' Christie said. "So either this makes me father of the year, or completely insane.''
Christie said he hasn't taken a vacation since November, when he defeated incumbent Gov. Jon Corzine, and the family needs some quality time together.
While on the road, Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno will assume the governor's job.
